Support high-level integrated services

• Real-time protocols (e.g., RTP)
• QoS reservation mechanisms (e.g., RSVP)

Determine ``implict'' switch packet scheduling

• Round-robin arbitration on a per-packet level
• Bandwidth per source related to ratio of packet sizes

Emulate router queueing disciplines

• Insert interval gaps in packet emission
  • Available BW determined by gaps in other traffic
  • Reserve BW by regulating gaps in all traffic
• Modify packet sizes via MTU discovery
• Centralize intra-LAN BW reservation

Provide link-layer multicast

• Improve IP multicast performance.
• Support group communication in the ATOMIC LAN.
