"Modular Reconfigurable Robots ~M-TRAN"
10/3/2003: 10:30am - 12:00pm
11th Floor Large Conference Room
Abstract: We have been studying modular robotic system in
order to show feasible form of self-reconfigurable
system. In this talk, M-TRAN(modular transformer)
system is depicted among them. This system is
made of homogeneous robotic modules. It is a self-
contained module includes micro-processors,
actuators, sensors, battery and inter-module
communication.
By combining primitive motion segments such as
rotating axis, attaching/detaching connection, an
aggregation of M-TRAN modules can be metamorphose
into various robotic configuration, and also generate a
coordinated motion such as walking and crawling.
The following topics will be discussed in the talk.
1) Hardware improvement of M-TRAN.
2) Reconfiguration planning between different shapes.
3) Sensor based reconfiguration (self-repair, adaptation, etc.)
4) Multi-robot interaction (self-division, replication, etc.)
