Dartnet PC Router - Binary compatibility with FreeBSD Release 2.1

Summary :

This note details the configuration changes/additions done on the MIT Dartnet distribution, for binary compatibility with FreeBSD Release 2.1 applications.

Problem :

Some basic tools - tsch, emacs etc, don't run , reporting library failures ("libc.so.2.2 not found").

Solution :

Install binary compatibility with FreeBSD release 2.1. Download the ./compat21x code from the Dartnet MIT site.

Procedure :

1. If you did not do the installation of the dartnet distribution on your PC, go through the installation web page on this site and related information for familarity and context.

2. Run the /stand/sysinstall program on your Dartnet PC, choose the
custom install->distributions->custom->/compat21x sequence.

3. If prompted for the media, choose the Dartnet ftp site at MIT.

4. The program will proceed and get the system to support freeBSD 2.1 release applications. (it will download, uncompress, and install)

5. Restart the system, although this did not seem necessary.
