Entities

Entities are special characters that can be encode in SGML:

ISO-8859-1

In addition to the above 'entities', the following are the special (extended) characters of ISO-8859-1, as implemented in HTML. They can be called by using the notation &#nnn where 'nnn' is the ASCII number of the character, as shown below.

Symbol support in HTML3

HTML3 can represent symbols which are available in the adobe symbol font. These symbols must be encoded in HTML using the entity reference notation.
