About Us

GeoWorlds is an applied research and development project looking at ways to help individuals and groups gather and organize information about situations. GeoWorlds provides a suite of tools and services which help users identify topics, places, and time frames likely to of interest to them within large collections of documents. Those tools help users organize and share the information that they find. There is a research version incorporating technology from collaborators in the NSF/DARPA/NASA Digital Library Initiative, and a stripped-down more practical version that is intended for harder use. A short description is given in How It Works, and more details at the GeoWorlds web site.

GeoWorlds is an ongoing research effort within USC Information Sciences Institute's Distributed Scalable Systems Division. We work on development, integration, and application of advanced technologies for network-based enterprises. Our work spans the range of information technologies relevant to coordinating humans, software, and machines in understanding and affecting the world. Our goal is to help them do so rapidly, effectively, and securely.

Information Sciences Institute was established in 1972 as an independent research unit of the University of Southern California School of Engineering. ISI has a long-standing tradition of integrating academic excellence, practical applications, and service to the community. One of the world's leading computer science and information technology research, our staff includes internationally recognized researchers and USC faculty in a wide range of fields. ISI provides high-level services and resources to the international computing community and enables students and researchers to work with some of the most advanced systems, testbeds, and design tools in the world. ISI is bicoastal, with locations in Marina del Rey, California, and Arlington, Virginia.
