Biological Data Integration

With the advent of high-throughput methods, the field of biology is increasingly faced with the problem of storing, indexing and retrieving the myriad data types and sources now available. Futhermore, the emergence of the Internet has meant that the data is accessible over the web, albeit in differing formats and semantics.

Our goal is to integrate these web-enabled bio-resources using the tools and techniques developed we have developed in other projects. We reported our initial research efforts to dynamically compose web services that integrate cancer-related genomic and proteomic data in VLDB journal article. We focused on dynamically composing template integration plans that can be hosted as information providing web services using the Prothemeus mediator. In addition, we described our approach to optimizing and efficiently executing the generate template integration plans. In future, we plan to look into record linkage of bio-informatics entities, such as proteins and genes.
