Your group can now obtain a directory in which you can place Web pages and CGI programs for the class project. (You don't *have* to use the class Web server if you prefer to use another server, but it is available to you.) To have a directory created for you, contact Qian Chen with your name and group number (Pedro must have already assigned you a group number; Qian will verify against Pedro's list that you're in CS588 and have that group number). Assuming you are group - say - 23, Qian will then create a directory 'group23' in the directory '/home/scf-08/csci588/spring97/groups' with permissions 'drwx-wx---' and in it a subdirectory with a name like 'topSecretPassword' with permissions 'drwxrwx---'. He'll then mail you the name of the password directory. This setup should prevent you from looking or writing into another group's directory. It is probably not foolproof - resist any temptation - note that UCS may monitor file system access. And, always, always maintain a backup copy of what you place into the group directory in a group member's personal account. You can then place subdirectories, HTML pages, CGI programs etc. in /home/scf-08/csci588/spring97/groups/group23/topSecretPassword which are served from (assuming you have an index.html there): http://nunki.usc.edu:8588/group23/topSecretPassword Good luck!
