I am thinking of something similar too. Once, I am done with the
application IDL, I could do this as an exercise.

Orbeline is planning to release a version that is compatible with
g++ sometime in early Jan. I will send them a mail the first week of Jan
to know about the status. I will let you know. This version also
includes the new IDL -> C++ specs. So, we probably won't have a lot of
code to change.
