Ethernet or faster bandwidth is needed to interactively view the average web page.
Bandwidth requirements increase as the distance to the server increases

Move from "Point, Click, Wait" to "Point, Click, Action"

  Reduce contention for popular services through Coordination

 Sharing requests and links through multicast reduces congestion in the network and at the server.

Methods

  Utilize Interrequest Bandwidth

Transferring unrequested files when no other use of the link is being made improves the

  Proactive requests

Preloading a client or intermediate cache with anticipated requests reduces the wait a user experiences when making a request over the network.

  Optimize for Topology

Cache where files will be best used.  Combine identical requests and responses over shared links.
