About LSAM Request Routing
Non-parent Proxy Relationships
The final phase of LSAM request routing will develop mechanisms
to exploit the
multicast
subscriptions
of nearby non-parent proxies. This is the LSAM
mechanism that is analogous
to querying "neighbor" caches
(as opposed to parent caches) in other "2nd generation" cache
systems. Instead of querying a neighbor to see if a particular
item is cached, an LSAM proxy
will be aware of, and exploit,
multicast subscriptions of nearby caches. This has the benefit
of avoiding the additional delay of completely arbitrary neighbor
cache query; queries are
only sent to neighbors that
are likely to have an item, based on their subscription to the
appropriate multicast channel.
These mechanisms are under development.
