The type of the input document can greatly affect
the output of an MT system. For example, inputs to the METEO system are
specific and very restricted, mainly weather forecast texts, using a limited
lexicon and particular syntactic constructions. As a result the system
produces accurate output, comparable to human translation. In contrast,
MT of arbitrary text invariably produces output of much lesser quality.
Both the genre and the application domain determine the quality.
