We currently use both OPNET and NS. Although it would be quite a
dream to be able to port code between the two, it seems to me
a quite difficult task (so difficult that I would never try it...)
The problem is that OPNET's TCP module is a very complete and
complicated one:
it models all the details of connection establishment and teardown,
and all the interactions with the application layer upwards and the
IP layer downwards.

I have the same question. On the other hand, when we asked a company
that we are doing a work for what simulator to use, they were quite
restrictive on OPNET. It seems to me that the industry world, as
opposed to the research world, prefers OPNET or COMNET at this point;
perhaps because they still don't know about ns well enough. Or
because they want software that is more stable. Time will show.
