[ns] How to monitor Energy

Dear All

I'm trying to slightly modify the Mac802.11 protocol in order to get
information about 
the amount of energy used and the energy still left in every node. 
In the "Wireless_newnode_energy.tcl" script the variable (logenergy) is used.
I wonder if I can use this variable to trace the energy of a wireless node
and if so how? 

I would apreciate it if anybody can help me with that since I cannot find any 
discription of it in ns.
