[ns] ns-2.1b7a related problems

hi,
I have recently started using ns-2 and have been trying to write small  
programs using ns. I tried running a very simple script... something that 
creates two nodes and attaches an UDP agent to one of them. I have checked 
my code with that given in Marc Greis's tutorial and am still getting the 
following errors...I can't figure it out.... please help!

can't attach _o38 for writing
     (_o36 cmd line 1)

"_o36 cmd attach _o38"

     (SplitObject unknown line 2)

     (file "example_2.tcl" line 26)

...."SplitObject unknown" what is that?
