[ns] format of a trace file

hi all,
 I'm a new user. I would like to know
1> the format of a trace file to analyse it. I dont
have any pointers. does it show lost packets.
what happens when trace-all is used & possible
combinations if tracing a file. how to analyse it

  I feel going thro the entire otcl, c++ code is
hectic. culd anyone sugest me an easy way to learn
things from tcl to otcl ,maybe the organisation of
code
