You have another perfectly good gcc available.

$ kgcc --version
egcs-2.91.66
$ gcc --version
2.96 <- they should say RH here.
$ kgcc --help
[..]

I've built
nam-1-snapshot-20011214
ns-2-snapshot-20011214
otcl-snapshot-20011214
tclcl-snapshot-20011214

quite happily with both versions.
