- "Halfway down a bystreet of one of our New England towns stands
a rusty wooden house, with seven acutely peaked gables...."
Thus begins on of our most famous novels in American
Literature. The ancient mansion which inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne to
write "The House of Seven Gables" is today the centerpiece of a
remarkable historic site. Gathered by the sea around beautiful period
gardens are three 17th century dwellings, and the house where
Hawthorne was born in 1804.
History and Literature, fact and fantasy come together at The
House of Seven Gables in a setting of unsurpassed beauty. Green
lawns, ancient horsechesnut trees, and a panoramic view of Sunlit
Salem Harbor are all yours to enjoy.
