The SAMAN project is looking at the problem of how to make network protocols and operations more robust to failure. Our goal is to understand, detect and ultimately predict and avoid failure conditions. We are approaching this problem by extending current network simulation tools such as ns-2 with:

• analytic pre-processing of simulation scenarios to rapidly discard uninteresting cases
• application-level traffic models
• tools to rapidly use measurements to parameterize traffic models
