Each year members of the Soar community -- faculty, scientists, graduate students and technical staff -- gather together for a weekend of intensive interaction and exchange on Soar. The Soar community is widely distributed geographically. These workshops provide the opportunity of having face-to-face conversations, of hearing about the current status of everyone's research, and of looking forward to what will be happening in the future. We will try to give as many members of the community as possible the opportunity to describe their research or to discuss whatever Soar issues are of concern to them. This means the time available per talk is quite short (typically either 5 or 15 minutes). Since workshop attendees are already well-entrenched in the Soar world, however, brief talks that concentrate on only the essentials work very well. The Soar Workshop is announced on the soar-group mailing list, but we do want to ensure that everyone actively working with Soar does get invited, so if you know of anyone who really should have been invited, but did not receive an invitation, please let us know. A nightly room rate of $110.00 (plus ~10% tax) has been arranged for a limited number of single or double rooms at the Marina del Rey Hotel. This hotel is located on the water in the Marina and within a 5 minute walking distance to ISI. We plan to offer 2 - 3 hands-on tutorial sessions on the Thursday and Friday (May 11 & 12) prior to the workshop, depending on the community interest. On Thursday and Friday, there will be a 2-day Introduction to Soar for Soar Novices. On Friday we will also offer a 1-day tutorial for those already familiar with Soar, that will cover Soar 8 in the morning, and how create application environments in the afternoon.
There will not be a registration fee charged for the tutorials, but registration will be required. A small materials fee will be charged to cover the cost of the tutorial materials. A registration fee of US$80 per person includes dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, refreshment breaks, and a copy of the proceedings. Registration fees must be paid on-site with check or cash. Please make checks payable to USC Information Sciences Institute.
