view_waverly_bridge * This is a view of the North bridge from the Waverly bridge. The grassy area is Prince's Street Gardens which is in front of Prince's Street. It used to be the Nor Loch (North Lake), but was filled in and converted to this garden to entice the wealthy to move out of the overcrowded old city, into the new city across the North Bridge, which they did, building homes along Prince's Street. * 640 x 480 * (126KB)
view_waverly_bridge_2 * This is another shot from Waverly Bridge. The buildings in the background are very old, which always amazes me as an American in Europe. You will see stores and people carrying on their everyday lives within buildings that are twice as old as my country... * 640 x 480 * (130KB)
castlecliff2 * This is a picture taken from Prince's Street. In the background high up on the mountain is the first picture I took of Edinburgh Castle. Below are the gardens once more, and I forgot who the dude on the horse is... * 640 x 480 * (118KB)
castlevillage * This is another shot of the mountain top where the castle is. This shot shows part of the village that sprang up around the castle, under its protection. * 640 x 480 * (123KB)
castlecliff * This is a view of the castle from my tour bus. * 640 x 480 * (118KB)

oldlawn * To be honest, I don't remeber what the guide said about this...it looks like some sort of lawn bowling area or something, with an old cemetary in the background. There are lots of old cemetaries in Edinburgh, and lots of ghost tours. * 640 x 480 * (123KB)
parliment2 * This is a picture of the outside of the new Parliment building. In 1999, the Scots voted for devolution which gives them an independent parliment that can vote on devolved matters, such as tourism, fishing, education and Gaelic. For other matters, such as foreign policy, the parliment in Englad still makes the choice. However, there has been a parliment in Scotland since the 1200s, so this is not to imply that Parliment is new to the country. The people I talked to were quite passionate about this building. They either loved it, or hated it. Apparently, it's an order of magnitude over budget (450M pounds). * 640 x 480 * (114KB)
parliment1 * More Parliment craziness! * 640 x 480 * (114KB)
citypic * This is a rather poor picture I took crossing over a bridge in my tour bus. The graveyard is kind of cool, I guess. * 640 x 480 * (116KB)
overbridge * This is why I am not a photographer... * 640 x 480 * (119KB)

street * Here's a street. I was so amazed at the old buildings, that sometimes I just took photos of randoms streets. * 640 x 480 * (123KB)
louis_stevensons_birthplace * My tour guide said that the home marked by the red door was the birthplace of Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde). This factoid was refuted by the Writer's Musuem, however, so I am going to have to believe the historians with their facts. * 640 x 480 * (125KB)
backofgallery * This is a lame picture of the back of the National Gallery...the tour bus was driving by, and I recognized the building to I took a photo. This is one danger of a digital camera... * 640 x 480 * (119KB)
scottmem * This is a far away shot of the monument to William Scott, the writer. This was the first picture I took of it, but one thing to note is that in many of the city pictures later on, this monument is visible, giving you an idea of where you are in the city. This monument is just in front of the Price's Street Gardens. * 640 x 480 * (123KB)
william_scott_monument * Here is the close up shot of the Scott Memorial, previously mentioned. It's quite tall and old. * 119 x 152 * (4KB)
