writers * The Writer's Museum! This is a museum dedicated to Stevenson, Scott and the poet Robert Burns. It's in the former home of Lady Stair which was most likely built in 1622. * 640 x 480 * (130KB)
view_camobs3 * There is this really fun place called the Camera Obscura, right by the castle. It's a periscope built in 1851, on top of this old building that was also very tall. You basically go into the dark room, and they project what the periscope sees onto this wooden table, and you can look at all of the parts of the city. This is a view from the balcony, outside the periscope room. The view of the city is beautiful. * 640 x 480 * (128KB)
view_down_Royal_Mile * This is a view down the Royal Mile, as seen from the top of the Camera Obscura building, which is itself on the royal mile, very close to the castle. The Royal Mile is actually 1.1 miles :) and connects Edinburgh Castle to the Hollyrood House Palace, which is the royal residence of the queen when she's in Scotland. I was pleased that it was the Royal Mile, and not the Royal 1.61 Kilometers. * 119 x 152 * (4KB)
view_top_cam_obs_locknessMabe * Another view atop the Camera Obscura building with a fantastic view of the city... * 640 x 480 * (128KB)
view_top_cam_obs1 * This picture was taken to emphasize the height of the Camera Obscura roof top. It shows that the royal mile is 5 floors above the street, according to the building across the street. * 119 x 152 * (4KB)

camobs * Here is the room that houses the periscope. * 119 x 152 * (4KB)
optical_illusion_camera_ob * The Obscura also had holograms, optical illusions and other visual wonders throughout its floors. This is a pretty cool painted illusion, but the glare makes it a bit hard to see. On one hand, it's a general's head, on the other, it's a farmer and his lady friend... * 119 x 152 * (4KB)
kelvin * This was taken in the Museum of Scotland, which is fantastic. The museum is dedicated to the history of Scotland, particularly it's people. It has artifacts from people covering the whole history of Scotland, from the Vikings, Norse, Pictish and Saxons to the Jacobite uprisers all the way to modern Scots. They have ancient weapons and tools, things with runes on them, Roman armor, antique tartan (cool plaid stuff), bones, medieval tradign tools, Renessaince furniture, etc...after all those cool things, the only pic I took was this lame one commemorating Lord Kelvin (they did have some of his actual stuff though!) My bad. * 640 x 480 * (117KB)
poetshield * The museum of Scotland is connected to the Royal Museum, which is a hodgepodge of exhibits. There are old art pieces, biological exhibits, and other interesting things. Here is text describing the Poet's shield. * 640 x 480 * (110KB)
actualpoetshield * The poet's shield itself! * 640 x 480 * (115KB)

wedgwood * Some of our plates are Wedgwood, so I thought I would show some of his history. * 640 x 480 * (109KB)
josiah_wedgwood * Wedgwood himself was pretty old... * 640 x 480 * (108KB)
wedgwoodcreamware * And here is one of his old plates...I can already hear the oooohs and aaaaahs * 640 x 480 * (112KB)
bobbytomb * There is a cemetary in Ediburgh called Greyfriars. In this cemetary, a long time ago, this guy died and was buried. Once buried, his dog came and sat on his grave and kept watch every day, until he himself died, 14 years later! The dog's name was Bobby, and they commemorated his loyalty and loving by burying him in the front of the cemetary. Here is a picture of his restored grave. The Scots really love their dogs, which is awesome. * 640 x 480 * (134KB)
greyfriars * Here's another shot within Greyfriars. It's incredibly peaceful and beautiful. In fact, I saw quite a few people enjoying their lunches there. * 640 x 480 * (132KB)
