hh_abbey1 * Connected to the palace is this abbey, which is really old and cool. This is a picture of one of the walls. * 480 x 640 * (120KB)
hh_abbey2 * This is the other wall of the abbey. These ruins are really cool looking. * 480 x 640 * (114KB)
hh_abbey3 * These large and old columns show how big the abbey must have been. They really dwarf the people in the picture. * 640 x 480 * (131KB)
hh_abbey4 * This is the outside of the abbey. I thought the crumbly stones were super cool looking. * 480 x 640 * (124KB)
old_tomb_in_hhAbbey * This is one of the most easily legible tombs in the abbey, so I took a photo of it. * 480 x 640 * (124KB)

ruins_in_hh_garden_outsidepalace * These are some sort of ruins right outside of the abbey. Nothing was said about them in the audio tour, but they looked significant. * 640 x 480 * (133KB)
hh_garden_grounds * This is part of the garden outside of the palace, which is huge. This is connected to Hollyrood Park, which used to be royal hunting grounds. There are lots of signs saying to stay off of the perfectly manicured grass, but apparently this joker is above the law. To bad for him, his crime is now documented for all history on the internet! * 640 x 480 * (123KB)
hh_abbey4_connection_toHHseen * Another shot of the outside of the abbey. The buttresses were really neat looking. Also, this shows how the Abbey connected to the palace. * 640 x 480 * (131KB)
outsideofhh_viewfromgarden_royal_chambers_in_middle * This is the shot from the gardens, looking at the outside of the palace. As we took the royal procession, from room to room, into the king's room, we could see out into the gardens, right where I am standing. So one of the rooms in the shot here is right next to the king's bedchamber. * 640 x 480 * (131KB)
hh_garden2 * Here is another shot of the palace and it's grounds. * 640 x 480 * (121KB)

hh_foreground_parliment_peekingoverinbackground * I took this picture because the foreground shows the palace, and the farthest building in the background (the white one) is the new parliment. Some people complain that parliment is built on such historic land (so close to the palace), but I think it's kind of cool because it represents progress. * 640 x 480 * (122KB)
parliment_front * Here is the public entrance to the parliment. It's some pretty crazy architecture. You can take a tour of parliment, rather cheaply, and if you do, you should try and take it with the old guy. He's absolutely hilarious and made the tour super interesting. Tourist note: the cafe in here had some of the cheapest tea and snacks I found in the city! * 640 x 480 * (126KB)
spl * Scotland has a fine literary tradition, which they are proud of. Here is the Scottish Poetry Library. I didn't go in, although I'm sure it's about as exciting as visiting Walt Whitman's house... * 640 x 480 * (121KB)
castle_other_side * This is the castle from a different angle. This is along the route we took from the conference center to the castle, when we had the welcome reception. I think this is actually a more dramatic view than the more traditional one from Prince's Street. * 640 x 480 * (116KB)
mytalk1 * Here I am during my talk. This picture was taken by my friend Thomas, from Germany. Look at the deft use of the clicking device! * 1024 x 768 * (504KB)
