  • Affective Computing

My main research interest is affective computing. In particular emotion recognition through behavior analysis using artificial intelligence approach, emotion exploitation through verbal and non-verbal behavior. I'm a member of USC Emotion Group.
  • User Modeling

Including knowledge tracing, plan recognition, motivation and affect modeling.
  • Politeness Theory

Brown and Levinson have devised a cross-cultural theory of politeness, according to which everybody has a positive and negative “face”. Positive face is the want to be desirable to others (approval). Negative face is the want to be unimpeded by others (autonomy). I am interested in how the politeness theory applies to learning, in particular how politeness strategies used by tutor to influence learning experience.
