I work in the Center for Health Informatics and the Medical Information Systems Division of the Information Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California. Currently, I serve as chair of the Data Management Working Group of the Biomedical Informatics Research Network.

Before joining ISI, I was a technical lead and manager at a technology startup and developed a data integration system used by major publishing, recording, and information services organizations. Before that, I was a technical lead and manager for the development of "trusted systems" for protected content distribution at Xerox Corporation and worked on the Xerox PARC Cooperative R&D Agreement with the Los Alamos National Laboratory on the Nuclear Weapons Archive project. These technologies were patented and eventually acquired by Microsoft. I began my career as a software developer at Candle Corp. (now IBM) on systems monitoring tools used in the data centers of many major banks, telcos, and retailers. (vita)
