Christoph Bull on the King of Instruments
Saturday, February 2, 2013, 7:30-8:30pm
Back by popular demand, Christoph Bull comes to Venice with a program that brings organ music to the 21st century. From Bach to the Beatles, Bull plays organ music with a rock musician's sense of rhythm and a jazz musician's sense of improvisation.
More/less detail
Back by popular demand, Christoph Bull comes to Venice with a program that brings organ music to the 21st century.
Bull mixes rock'n'roll, jazz, and classical repertoire into his own organ pieces that he fondly calls "rockin' organ music."
Saturday's program will include Bull's version of Nine Fugues by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Bull has performed in an array of venues, from churches and Walt Disney Concert Hall to the Whiskey a Go Go, and with musicians as diverse as Cindy Lauper, Nidhat Khan (sitar) and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.
We're excited to announce that performance painter Norton Wisdom will be joining Christoph for the concert.
Norton works with musical ensembles spontaneously painting images that capture the essence of the moment.
This unique and original artist performs live with bands and musicians onstage,
creating art as he is inspired by the music he hears.
His live performance collaborations in addition to Bull include:
Monterey Jazz Festival, Cirque Du Soleil, Las Vegas, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers,
the Coachella Festival and the UC Santa Barbara, Laguna Beach and San Diego art museums.
Thanks to funding from First Lutheran Church of Venice and the generosity of individual donors,
this concert is our gift to you, free of charge.
Doors open at 7:15. There is ample parking on the streets surrounding the church as well as on the church grounds.
We look forward to seeing you!
