Central to this will be devices that enhance autonomy, communicating real-time information about geology, navigation, atmospheric conditions and vital signs, without relying solely on communications from mission control back on Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/microgravityuniversity.jsc.nasa.gov\/nasasuits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">NASA SUITS<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (Spacesuit User Interface Technologies for Students) leverages the bright ideas of graduate and undergraduate student teams to integrate augmented reality (AR) features into spacesuit design, creating a seamless interface that will enable astronauts to perform dangerous extravehicular activity (EVA). The goal is to increase access to information while lowering the stress of cognitive workload.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/viterbischool.usc.edu\/news\/2022\/04\/usc-and-ua-students-are-developing-an-ar-interface-to-inform-lunar-astronauts-of-location-vitals\/#:~:text=The%20USC%2FUA%20team%20was%20one%20of%20ten%20teams,within%20augmented%20reality%20environments%20for%20future%20lunar%20missions.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">last year\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> successful participation in NASA SUITS, USC students have further optimized their design as part of a dedicated class within the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> USC Viterbi School of Engineering <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/astronautics.usc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Department of Astronautical Engineering<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cThe USC SUITS team is one of those unique projects that truly brings students from different disciplines together to solve real problems and advance the state of the art,\u201d said <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/viterbi.usc.edu\/directory\/faculty\/Barnhart\/David\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">David Barnhart<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, director of the USC <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/centers-serc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Space Engineering Research Center.<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> \u201cThe emergence of augmented reality to enable hands-on \u201coff-world\u201d tasks provides a unique method to increase safety, efficiency and the overall ability to explore.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This year\u2019s \u201cTeam Aegis\u201d is a collaboration between USC and the University of California, Berkeley.
