Our applied research has centered around tools-oriented approaches which facilitate programming heterogeneous computing devices, enable operations in challenging domains, and enable rapid trade space exploration of optimal solutions for new architectures.Our goal-oriented solutions are motivated by ever-changing real-world challenges and have shown demonstrable performance gains on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Autonomous Systems, Software Defined Radio (SDR), Trust and Security applications.<h3>Projects<\/h3><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/reconfigurable_computing_group\/overview#:~:text=High%20Productivity%20Tools%20for%20Heterogeneous%20Devices\">High Productivity Tools for Heterogeneous Devices<\/a><br \/>Raising programming abstraction levels to reduce hardware development cycles<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/reconfigurable_computing_group\/overview#:~:text=Emerging%20Architectures\">Emerging Architectures<\/a><br \/>Research in &#8220;More than Moore&#8221; technology<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/centers\/sure\/home\">Challenging Environments<\/a><br \/>Research in enabling devices to operate in potentially hostile environments<\/li><\/ul><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/reconfigurable_computing_group\/overview\">Visit Website<\/a><\/p><\/section>\n    <section><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/cst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/08\/cstrc-isi.jpg\" alt=\"Researcher Looking at Microchip Board through Magnifying Lense\"\/><\/section>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n    <section><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/cst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/07\/csthc-isi.jpg\" alt=\"Virtual Cloud Connected to Devices\"\/><\/section>\n    <section><h2>Heterogeneous Computing<\/h2><p><strong>ISI&#8217;s Heterogeneous Computing group<\/strong>\u00a0has been leading research programs targeting heterogeneous, multi-core, and accelerator-based computing for nearly 10 years.\u00a0 With the breakdown in Dennard Scaling, general-purpose processor performance gains have slowed.\u00a0 The end result is that computer architectures have moved towards heterogeneity and dark silicon.\u00a0 ISI&#8217;s heterogeneous computing group has made significant contributions to cloud computing, space systems software, virtualization, and resource management.<h3>Projects<\/h3><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/heterogeneous_computing\/overview#:~:text=Heterogeneous%20Cloud%20Computing\">Heterogeneous Cloud Computing<\/a><br \/>Novel ways to use heterogeneous high performance computing in the cloud<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/heterogeneous_computing\/overview#:~:text=USC\/ISI%20developed,compromising%20mission%20goals.\">Space Systems Software<\/a><br \/>Robust operating system support for upcoming many-core and heterogeneous multi-core space processors<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/heterogeneous_computing\/overview#:~:text=As%20a%20research,compute-intensive%20applications.\">Virtualization<\/a><br \/>Enabling high performance virtualized computing<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/heterogeneous_computing\/overview#:~:text=USC\/ISI%E2%80%99s%20work,performance%20when%20needed.%C2%A0\">Resource Management<\/a><br \/>Enabling virtualized resources to vertically scale in order to meet the needs of multi-modal real-time application behavior<\/li><\/ul><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/research_groups\/heterogeneous_computing\/overview\">Visit Website<\/a><\/p><\/section>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n    <section><h2>Quantum Computing and Information Science<\/h2><p>A joint effort of Lockheed Martin Corporation and the University of Southern California, the Quantum Computing Center (QCC) is housed at USC&#8217;s Information Sciences Institute, one of the world&#8217;s leading computer science and engineering research entities. Faculty, researchers and students are performing basic and applied research into noisy, intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computing devices, and are collaborating with researchers around the world.
