The mission of the Viterbi School Office of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship is to launch ventures with significant social and economic impact based on USC faculty, students, and technologies. I will share an overview of the several resources and programs available through our office to support your entrepreneurial interests, including special funding for faculty, the I-Corps program and the Viterbi Startup Garage (VSG), Viterbi’s early-stage technology incubator housed in the same building as ISI. VSG focuses on deep technology and AI-enabled start-ups, several tackling considerable real world AI problems.

In the second half, Frenzy, one of the companies in residence at VSG, will present their contributions and challenges in AI. Frenzy’s deep learning science turns web content and social media posts into structured training data sets as if labeled by a human expert, empowering visual-based AI systems to recognize exact objects, with brand and/or exact match specificity. The team recently raised $1M+ pre-seed, one of their investors is Dr. Huican Zhu of Amino Capital and the pioneer of Google image search in Asia.
