The following paper is S-MAC journal paper. It improves S-MAC with adaptive listen, which is able to adjust node activity according to traffic. Complete evaluation of S-MAC performance is reported in the paper.

The following paper proposes two distributed algorithms, which can be applied to low-duty-cyle MAC protocols, such as S-MAC. The global schedule algorithm incrementally switches all nodes into a single, global wakeup schedule. The fast path algorithm enables fast data forwarding along certain paths.
