{"id":33,"date":"2022-12-01T22:25:30","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T22:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/newsroom\/?page_id=33"},"modified":"2024-09-12T18:55:30","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T18:55:30","slug":"cloudwalkers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/newsroom\/cloudwalkers\/","title":{"rendered":"Cloudwalkers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\tFifty years ago, USC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isi.edu\/\">Information Sciences Institute<\/a> (ISI) was created to solve the world&#8217;s most difficult technical problems. <i>Cloudwalkers: ISI and the Inventors of the Future<\/i>, written and directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/viterbi.usc.edu\/directory\/faculty\/Druhora\/Daniel\">Daniel Druhora<\/a>, covers the breadth of ISI&#8217;s storied history &#8211; from its founding following the release of the Pentagon Papers, which prompted increased government attention on computer networking; to its role designing, developing and running the Internet, which led to one of the greatest explosions of information in human history; to the astonishing and varied work being done by ISI researchers in recent years through today. The <em>Cloudwalkers<\/em> trailer is now available:<br \/>\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/763483600?h=00de92917a&amp;color=ffffff\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-ready=\"true\" aria-label=\"Cloudwalkers trailer video\"><\/iframe>\n<p>With insights and commentary from Internet co-inventor Vint Cerf; one of the first ISI employees, Bob Balzer; and current day ISI faculty, researchers and executive staff, <i>Cloudwalkers <\/i>is filled with personal anecdotes and never-before-heard tales of ISI. A throughline narration is provided by Paul Mockapetris, a former ISI researcher, Internet Hall of Famer, and inventor of the Domain Name System (DNS), who walks viewers through some of ISI&#8217;s most impressive and long-lasting contributions to the Internet, including his very own DNS.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/viterbischool.usc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/CW_18x24-1-1-1-copy-225x300.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/viterbischool.usc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/CW_18x24-1-1-1-copy-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/viterbischool.usc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/CW_18x24-1-1-1-copy.jpg 1800w\" alt=\"Cloudwalkers Documentary\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the explosion of information and connectivity brought by the rapid success and ubiquity of the Internet, came a need to keep it a safe space. <i>Cloudwalkers<\/i> delves into the developments in cybersecurity and cyber defense made by researchers at ISI. Bringing world-class experts in the cyber space from both inside and outside the walls of ISI, viewers get a look at how cybersecurity has advanced since those early internet years, and how ISI has played a role in that advancement.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the documentary shows glimpses of some of the surprising work being done at ISI in recent years up until today.
