Simulation

Hello,
My name is Shiri Manor , I study in the Technion Israel.
My research is about scalable group communication systems.
I want to do simulation.
I consider to use NS ,  and I have some questions:

-Did anyone used NS on Linux.
-If I am going to use NS for upper layer (above TCP)  , will I have to
do
   write TCP code, or does NS give me TCP, and I will just write my
layers.
-Can NS deal with simulations of hundreds of nodes.
