ns-2.1b3 installation problem

Hi, I am trying to install ns-2.1b3 on Irix 6.3. I am using gcc v.2.8. 
Everything compiled fine, but while linking it gave the error:
/usr/lib32/mips3/nonshared/crt1.o not found.  I found the file crt1.o on
/usr/lib32/mips3 so I created the directory nonshared and copied crt1.o to
it.  I then had the error 
ld: FATAL 112: cannot link old 32-bit object
with -n32 link:  /usr/lib32/mips3/nonshared/crt1.o.  make: *** [ns] Error
1

Anybody has an idea what could be the problem?
