Here is the code that I have:

ST instproc leave-group { group {src "*"} } {
	ST instvar RP_
	$self next $group
	# check if the rep is active, then send a prune
	set r [$node_ getReps "\\*" $group]
	if ![$r is-active] {
		$self send-ctrl "prune" $RP_($group) $group
	}
}

which seems to be doing exactly what you say it doesn't.  You're
probably using an older version of ST...
