LAN not up-to-date

Hi,
I'm using Ns-2.1b4 (not last version: Ns-2.1b5...). I need to implement my
own MAC and LL protocols used in LANs, so I read about LANs in Ns's "Notes
and Documentation" to know how a LAN is implemented in Ns. But then I
realized that documentation is not up-to-date with the LAN implementation in
Ns-2.1b4 (in fact the NS-LAN.TCL file is compiled instead of VLAN.TCL file
as described in the documentation! ). I tried to read the code in NS-LAN.TCL
but I have not understand so much... Where can I find a (graphic)
description of the new LAN implementation as in NS-LAN.TCL (if it exists) ?
For example: why is a peer to peer link between LL protocols used?
Please answer, thanks!
