On the eve of the Third Millennium of the Christian era, EuroMusica, European Center for Music and Musical theatre, a non-profit making cultural body, located in Asolo (Italy), is proud to announce the international competition of free musical composition "Peace Anthem for the Third Millennium" in the hope of contributing to the process of peace and unity of all peoples on Earth .

The competition is open to all composers of music of all nations and without age restrictions; entries of any musical genre and form are accepted providing they are sent in to arrive within and not beyond the deadline set in the announcement and they fully comply with the regulations contained within the aforesaid announcement.

EuroMusica, taking into consideration the requests from many different parts of the world, has now decided to change the amount of the registration fees (administrative costs not refundable) on the basis of the UNO’s determination of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per head of each participant’s country of abode at a parity of purchasing power (PPP), as can be seen from the enclosed list below.

The competition will take place under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic as well as under the auspices of the UNO, the Peace Anthem for the Third Millennium being one of the initiatives acknowledged by the UNO for the 50° Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UNESCO, the Presidents Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Heritage, the Department of Entertainment for the Presidents Council of Ministers, the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Venice, the Province of Treviso, the Municipality of Treviso, the Municipality of Asolo.

Any proceeds resulting from the competition will be allocated to a community of Missionary Nuns.

International Competition of Free Composition

"Peace Anthem for the Third Millennium"

EUROMUSICA - European Centre for Music and Musical Theatre - announces an International Competition of Musical Composition "Peace Anthem for the Third Millennium".

The following regulations contained within this announcement will apply:

Art. 1

The competition is open to composers of any nationality and without age restrictions.

Art. 2

Any type and style of music can be entered.

Art. 3

Any lyrics accompanying the compositions must be accompanied by a translation in English.

Art. 4

Only compositions that have never been published, performed or awarded any prize may be entered for the competition.

The length of the composition must be not be less than 05 minutes or longer than 10 minutes.

Art. 5

First and second prizes will be awarded as follows:

- 1st prize of US$ 15,000

- 2nd prize of US$ 8,000

Art. 6

Competition entries must be presented as follows:

Each entrant must present three separate sealed envelopes:

  1. the first sealed envelope, bearing the letter A and a relevant motto (as a slogan accompanying the entry) chosen by the competitor, should contain the original full score accompanied by 8 copies, as well as any copy of the piano score or recorded tape, cassette or similar;
  2. the second sealed envelope, bearing the letter B and the above motto, should contain the following documents and information:

  • first and last names, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, nationality of the entrant;
  • three photographs of the entrant;
  • a declaration by the composer that the composition has never been published, performed or awarded any prize;
  • a declaration by the composer, under his/her own responsibility, that he/she has complied with and consented to all regulations of the competition, in particular Arts 10 and 11 of this present announcement;
  • a relevant (artistic) curriculum and details of studies followed (this latter where applicable);
  • a copy of the receipt for payment by postal order, to EuroMusica Foresto Vecchio 8 - 31011 Asolo (TV) Italy, for administrative costs, The administrative costs are not refundable, of:

III: the third sealed envelope, bearing the letter C, and containing envelopes A and B, should be sent to:

Envelopes A, B, C must not bear any identification whatsoever that might reveal the identity of the entrant. For this reason, envelope C must not bear the sender's address.

Art. 7

The entry, as under Art. 6, must arrive at the above address within and not beyond 5 p.m. on 30/11/1999. The entry date will be considered to be the date of the incoming mail stamp applied by EuroMusica. EuroMusica does not bear any responsibility for entries which fail to arrive or which arrive after the closing date as given in this present announcement.

Art. 8

Winners will be advised of the result of the competition by registered letter.

Art. 9

An international committee, set up for the occasion by EuroMusica, and comprising one member for each of the five continents, plus a representative of EuroMusica, and chaired by an internationally recognised composer, will:

  • examine the scores entered in accordance with the provisions and terms under Articles 6 and 7 of this present announcement;
  • assign the prizes indicated under Art. 5. Its decision is final. Furthermore, the committee will not confer the prizes or any part of them if the entries are not of a quality to satisfy the objectives set by the competition.

Art. 10

EuroMusica will organise performances of the scores awarded first and second prizes within the first six months of the year 2000. The performance will be open to the public, in a prestigious location selected for its cultural and historical setting and able to reflect to maximum advantage the importance of the occasion.

EuroMusica reserves the right to carry out the recording of this performance, which may be for disc, radio and/or television, using any chosen technical media, and to use it for television transmission as well as any other purposes it considers suitable, without recompense for the composers.

EuroMusica will also promote the circulation of the winning work among the most prestigious international organisations, with the aim of bringing the composition international recognition as the musical theme for the Third Millennium.

Art. 11

EuroMusica reserves the right to edit the musical material wherever retained necessary for the performance of the score.

Art. 12

The scores and lyric texts will be returned on explicit request at the entrant's own cost, provided that they comply with Art. 4, by 30/06/2000. However, two copies will be retained in the score archives of EuroMusica at Asolo (TV).

Art. 13

Participation in the competition:

  • implies the full and integral acceptance of these present regulations. Failure to observe any one rule of these regulations will result in the immediate exclusion of the entrant from participation in the competition;
  • grants EuroMusica the right to use the scores to which prizes have been assigned as under Art. 5, without any restrictions of time or form, directly or through third parties; for every such use of the winning scores, the composers will receive their copyright fees;
  • grants EuroMusica and a publishing house on its behalf, publishing rights of the winning scores, provided that they are not tied to exclusive rights with other publishing houses. For these purposes, the entry must contain a declaration of availability of publishing rights. Should there be any publishing rights, the entrant must present a letter of formal commitment from his/her publisher agreeing to grant EuroMusica or a publishing house on its behalf rights to co-publishing in all related and resulting aspects and forms;
  • forbids the winning composers from using the scores in any form whatsoever up until the radio and/or television transmission has taken place within the first six months of year 2000;
  • for composers who have not won, releases them from obligation not to perform their entered work, beginning from the day immediately after the announcement of the winners.

Art. 14

Should any organisational or other cause hinder fully or in part the running of the competition according to the regulations and within the set time limits, EuroMusica reserves the right to make suitable provision, giving due announcement to both participants and public as soon as possible, using both traditional and electronic media channels.

Art. 15

Reference will be made to the English language version of the competition announcement in case of dispute.

Art. 16

Should any controversy arise, recourse will be made to the Court of Treviso as the competent legal authority. For any issue regarding the interpretation or application of this present announcement, Italian law will apply.

Art. 17

The competition is not open to employees or members of EuroMusica.
