The newnode.tex chapter Padma mentions was checked in October 21st:

http://www-mash.cs.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cvsweb/ns-doc/newnode.tex

while the ns notes and documentation currently available from the
webpage Padma indicates was generated October 20th, and doesn't
contain it. You'll need to look in the doc directory of a current
snapshot - or read the raw TeX in the CVS tree.

(file modification dates next to names in the web CVS tree would be
 very useful.)

$ns_ node-config -addressingType flat or hierarchical or expanded?
Surely flat is just hierarchical with one level, and expanded is
history?
