Help ReCompile!

Dear ns-users, 
I am trying to learn more about ns and I'm trying to do the examples in tutorial. 
I'm trying to do VII. A new protocol for ns. I'm using Linux. 
When I down loaded ns the first time I could compile it without any big problem, 
but when I made the changes regarding to the example VII the command ns didn't execute ns 
anymore, instead I got a lot of text. I thought I might have made some mistakes while doing the example, so I took away what I changed 
and now I got the massage "make: *** [ns] Error 1" at the end of the compilation and 
when I type ns to execute ns I got the massage "ns : command not found". 
I hope you could help me with the problem.
