Network Dynamics in Tutorial

Hi all,
I am trying the dynamic routing  in the Tutorial.  When  using :

$ns rtproto DV

in the script, "rtProtoDV" packets are generated at the begining
of the simulation but traffic packets are not generated before or
after the link goes down. So there is no packet redirection.
I even generate packets between two neighboring nodes, without
the link failing, but still no packets are generated when I use
dynamic routing.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
I am using the ns snapshot on Linux.
