two columns per file is the general use.

But you can say:
xgraph file1 file2 file3 

and compare separate datasets which don't share a common x base...

...which is something I've never been able to do in Excel without
interpolating all files to share a common x column and then throwing
away enough of my results to fit in that teensy spreadsheet limit.

but hey, Excel has a chart wizard. pros and cons.
