[ns] problems building current snapshot

while building the current snapshot:

(hurrah for version info in the dir. name, incidentally.)

make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make target `shadowing.o'

...so I just removed the mention of shadowing.o from the Makefile,
built it, and the damn thing complained during validation about
: invalid command name "Propagation/Shadowing" etc.
and failed a bunch of tests that had nothing to do with shadowing,
e.g. test-output-rio/gentle.test

If there's a shadowing.cc file somewhere, it's not in the snapshot...
