[ns] trace file crunching

I've got this script that does some simulations and then reports them in
tracefiles. And I have another AWK script that chops the data down to
what I need... My question is, is there a way to delete the data in a
tracefile as it is running? My awk script processes the tracefile every
few seconds, so I don't need the previous processe's data... I've tried
re-opening it or re-setting it and the tcl script doesn't write to it
anymore.
