[ns] hierarchical addressing

Hi all,

the documentation everywhere says that the default format is
3 levels of 8 each
But the code in ~ns/tcl/lib/ns-address.tcl seems to suggest that default
is 3 levels - 10 11 11
I understand that the documentation (even on top of this file) is
obsolete. right?

And irrespective of the format, ns never complains even if assigned
addresses not conformant with defined hierarchical pattern. How are the
addresses internally stored?

If anyone is more familiar with this addressing stuff, please could you
explain the internals in short.

thanks,
