[ns] Manual layout

I have just started with NS-2.

I want to simulate a LAN (actually, several).  The problem is that nam
produces a horrid layout.  Is there a way to layout nodes and LANs
manually -- i.e. specify their position and/or orientation.  This can be
done for links.  The documentation (Ch "Nam Trace Format") doesn't deal
with the X amd L trace commands.  And after trawling the nam source code
for the parser I haven't been able to find the code which parses the L/X
commands.

Can someone point me to the code which parses trace commands in general --
I have been trhough Trace::scan.
