[ns] error in makefile.vc of ns-2?

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile ns-2.1b7 on Win98. But I
have a problem with the makefile. The compilation 
stops while executing the following lines of the
makefile.vc:

SUBDIRS=\
  indep-utils/cmu-scen-gen/setdest \
  indep-utils/webtrace-conv/dec \
  indep-utils/webtrace-conv/epa \
  indep-utils/webtrace-conv/nlanr \
  indep-utils/webtrace-conv/ucb

all: $(NS) all-recursive

all-recursive:
  for i in $(SUBDIRS); do ( cd $$i; $(MAKE) all; ) done

Then the following error-discription appeared:

Syntax error

Is there really an error in the for-loop? Or NMAKE of
VC++ 5.0 doesn't know any "for"?
How can I have the functionality of that for-loop without
the usage of "for"?.
