If make succeeds you're ready. Make install probably fails because you're 
trying to install nam in /usr/local/bin but you're not root. 

Just create a sym-link in ~/NEW-1/ns-allinone-2.1b8/bin pointing to
~/NEW-1/ns-allinone-2.1b8/nam-1.0a10/nam
