[ns] which versions of NS-2 need cmu extensions

Does anyone know for certain if versions NS-2.4 and beyond need cmu
extensions. I have found many conflicting answers to this question. Some
say that the cmu extensions are only in versions up to 2.3.

I am trying to build NS-2.7 for use in simulating ad-hoc networks and I
cannot get it to compile correctly with the cmu extensions. I am hoping
this means I don't need the cmu extensions.
