[ns] rookie's question

Dear All,
I have a question while start the simple sample of ns-2 on win2000,
I input :
% set ns tst
tst
% set nf [open out.nam w]
file1420d0
% $ns namtrace-all $nf
invalid command name "tst"

I don't know what I should do to pass this error msg, can anyone give some help?
