[ns] A problem with variable neighbor_ -please help !!

Hi,
I have a problem in running one of the MNS2.0 scripts
in which the following command :

set len [llength [$self set neighbor_]]

reports : "neighbor_ : can't read neighbor_ no such
variable"

But I have initialised the variable at the start of
this proceddure using "$self instvar neighbor_"

Can anybody please help me, This is very urgent ..
