CAIRNoc -- CAIRN Operations Center

Operation and maintenance of CAIRN is performed by a network operation center, the CAIRNoc, which is operated by the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI) in Marina del Rey, CA and Arlington, VA.

CAIRNoc performs the functions:

  • Scheduling CAIRN resources for experiments

  • Monitoring and maintaining the communication lines

  • Maintaining router configurations and restoring routers to default configuration after experiments

  • Maintaining evolving kernel build trees for experimental platforms

  • Maintaining a central repository of useful information, documentation, and tools for the participants.

  • Organizing installation of tail circuits, new equipment, etc.

  • Herding cats.

    As appropriate for a research testbed, CAIRNoc is a five day, 8 hour per day operation.
