[ns] Where to make changes for ns installation

Hi,

I am new to ns-2.  I need to install ns.  I have downloaded stuff required for ns.  But now I don't know how to use makefiles to compile ns.

Do I need to make changes in config.sys or somewhere else.

Please someone of you expert please let me know this, so that I can start my carrier in it.
